Dermatology involves the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of the skin, hair and nails. We aim to provide patients with the convenience of diagnosis and treatment the same day wherever possible, with our dedicated minor ops room.

Consultant Dermatologist, Dermatological surgeon and dermatological lead for skin cancer at St George’s. Dr Ven Samarasinghe MBChB, MRCP(DERM), is a consultant dermatologist, dermatological surgeon and dermatological lead for skin cancer.He qualified from the University of Manchester in 2002, and undertook dermatology specialist training in the Northwest of England Dermatology programme. On joining the national specialist register for Dermatology in 2012, Dr Samarasinghe completed a further one year fellowship in Mohs micrographic and dermatological surgery at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, London.
Dr Samarasinghe has completed multiple international scientific trials on skin cancer. He has lectured nationally and internationally on skin cancer, skin surgery and dermatology for which he has received awards. He has also published widely on skin cancer and currently sits on the national joint Dermatology-Plastic Surgery Integrated Fellowship board.
I trained at Charing Cross Hospital London and then did my Specialist Dermatology training at St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London and then at St George’s Hospital London.
My research work under the supervision of Prof Malcolm Greaves involved studying skin Inflammation and the Mediators involved. I was appointed the sole consultant dermatologist at Kingston Hospital in 1986 and developed the Dermatology service from scratch to provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of all skin diseases for all ages. During this period I trained many dermatology registrars who are now eminent consultants. I retired from the NHS in the Summer of 2014 leaving 5 colleagues to continue the service.
Dr Archana Rao is a UK trained Consultant Dermatologist and has the unique experience of training in dermatology both in the United Kingdom as well as overseas. She trained in dermatology and dermatosurgery at Imperial College, London, Chelsea & Westminster and Ealing hospitals.
Archana was awarded a gold medal for her study on the dermatoscope on ethnic skin by the Indian Association of Dermatologists. A scholarship from the European Hair Research Society saw her presenting her work on Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia in Barcelona and a scholarship by EADV invited her to Bologna for advanced training in hair loss. She used this experience to start dedicated clinics for hair loss on the NHS – a first of its kind in South West London, receiving referrals from as far as Southampton.
An active member of the British Association of Dermatologists, St John’s Dermatological society and Royal Society of Medicine, she has presented several papers at these meetings.
She is an invited lecturer at national meetings for Dermatologists, GPs, trichologists, nurses and has taught trainee Dermatologists on courses, nationally.
She has published in her specialty field in several peer-reviewed journals with her research contributions in Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia featuring in Nature, the most reputed medical journal in current times.
Archana has been appointed Consultant at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust since March 2014 and has helped develop the community clinic at Rayne’s Park Health Centre to a high standard of care for the local community. The service developed, improvised and led by her, was rated outstanding in a patient survey in 2015.
She was awarded the clinical excellence award by Kingston Hospital in 2019 in recognition of her work and contributions to the Trust.
She is happy to consult both adults and children.
Dr Janakan Natkunarajah is a full-time Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Lead at Kingston Hospital with over 15 years of experience. He is the current President (2020 – 2021) of the prestigious St John’s Dermatological Society.
He is the Clinical Lead for 5 dermatology consultants, 2 Specialist Consultants and 4 Specialist Nurses. He was appointed to Kingston Hospital in 2011. He developed the dermatology service at Kingston and Raynes Park Health Centre and Community sites with excellent patient feedback and is involved in Acute Dermatology Management at Kingston Hospital.
He trained at Imperial College London and graduated in 2002, having gained a first-class Neuroscience BSc in 1999. He has had the unique opportunity to have worked in several excellent dermatology units including Amersham Hospital and King’s College Hospital. He trained locally on the St George’s/St Helier’s/Kingston dermatology rotation.
Throughout his training he has won several prizes at the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Association of Dermatologists Annual Conference. He actively teaches dermatology to undergraduates and postgraduates and is involved in GP education with organising a GP skin club at Kingston Hospital.
Dr Natkunarajah is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He was Educational Supervisor at Kingston for the Dermatology Trainees (2011- 2017).
